Privacy
This policy explains how the Queensland Academy collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information, and what rights you have in relation to it. It is written to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Scope
It covers all personal information Tourism Accelerator holds in delivering the Queensland Academy, across the platform, supporting systems, email and other communications, and physical records. It does not cover information Tourism and Events Queensland holds in its own systems, which is governed by that organisation's own privacy policy.
What we hold
For operators, we hold contact details, business information, capability assessments and survey responses. For Academy Experts, we hold contact details, accreditation records, engagement records and performance feedback. We hold contact details for regional tourism organisation staff, standard employment-related information for team members, and any personal information that appears in the documents operators supply for their Academy Experts to work with.
How we collect it
Most information comes directly from the person it concerns, through registration, assessment and accreditation. Some comes from third parties, such as a referral from a regional tourism organisation. Where we collect information from a third party, we tell the person at the first opportunity.
How we use it
We use personal information to deliver the program: matching operators to Academy Experts, supporting engagements, managing Academy Expert performance, reporting outcomes, and communicating with operators, Academy Experts and regional partners. We also use it for reporting and evaluation, where it is aggregated and anonymised first. We do not use it to market unrelated services or for any purpose beyond what this policy describes.
How we disclose it
We may disclose personal information to the Academy Experts delivering an engagement (limited to what they need), to partnered regional tourism organisations (limited to their referral and oversight roles), and to Tourism and Events Queensland as funder (limited to what funding administration requires). We disclose it to anyone else only with consent or where the law requires it.
How we store it
Personal information is held in the platform and its supporting systems, with access restricted on a need-to-know basis and authentication and audit logging in place.
Retention
We keep personal information for as long as you are engaged with the program and for a period afterwards that allows for evaluation, reporting and the resolution of any dispute, under the program's data retention schedule.
Access and correction
You can see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct any inaccuracy. Requests go to the program's privacy contact and are answered within 30 days. Where we refuse access or decline a correction, we give our reasons and explain how to take the matter further.
Complaints
Complaints about how we handle personal information go to the program's privacy contact and are answered within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. We do not penalise anyone for making a privacy complaint. See also Complaints and disputes.
Data breaches
Where we become aware of a suspected data breach, we follow our incident management process. Notifiable breaches are reported to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and to affected individuals, as the Privacy Act requires.
Children's and sensitive information
We do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 16, and where we work with operators whose businesses involve children, we collect no information about those children. We do not routinely collect sensitive information; where you volunteer it, for example in discussing cultural protocols or accessibility needs, we hold it only as long as the purpose requires and only with your consent.
Privacy contact
The program's privacy contact is the operations lead at Tourism Accelerator. To reach them, email industry@queenslandacademy.com.au or phone 07 4802 5085 and ask for the privacy contact.
